Text Box: Text Box:      The hiring process begins when you complete your application and turn it into Abbeville County Emergency Management office at 394 Highway 28 By Pass, Abbeville. Applications are available at the Abbeville County Emergency Management office during their normal, weekday, business hours. Or, you can download the application right here, from our website. We also recruit new employees through job fairs and other job recruiting activities. You must submit a COMPLETE application or you will not be considered further. DO NOT LIE ON, OR INTENTIONALLY OMIT ANYTHING FROM YOUR APPLICATION. THIS WILL DISQUALIFY YOU FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH OUR CENTER. 
     Applications will be reviewed by the Deputy Director as they are received for completeness.  Job descriptions can be obtained from the Abbeville County Emergency Management office or here from our website. Once your application has been accepted (a background check is done and if you do not pass the background check, you will be notified by mail.  (911 applicants only - In order to pass background check, you can not have ANY criminal convictions) If you pass the background check you will be notified by phone. Applicants that make it through this portion of the process will then be scheduled to return for testing that will last approximately 2 hours. Testing will include the following:  Keyboarding (911 applicants are required to type 30 words per minute corrected.), Data Entry (Audio), Call Summarization, Cross Referencing (Audio), Character Comparison, Memory Recall-Numeric (Audio), Prioritization, Math, Probability, Map Reading,  Spelling, Sentence Clarity, and Reading Comprehension.
     
     Once you have passed your testing, you will be scheduled for a preliminary interview with management staff. If you are recommended by the management staff, you will be scheduled for a second interview with the Hiring and Recruitment team.  This interview will be in front of a number of experienced dispatchers/EMS employees. This battery of standard questions helps the hiring panel discover your knowledge of your chosen career path, and whether the nature of the work environment at Abbeville County Emergency Management (EMS or 911) would be conducive for you.

     If the steps listed above are completed successfully and the position offered is accepted, the applicant will receive a starting date. If there are no job openings at the time, you will added to a waiting list and when one comes available, names are taken from the top of that list, until the job is filled.  
     If the applicant does not meet the requirement of typing 30 wpm corrected(911 applicants only), you will be allowed to take another typing test as soon as possible. If the applicant fails to meet requirements on the tests or any other parts of the application process, you will be eligible to re-apply after 3 months.

Text Box: To want to become an Abbeville County Emergency Management employee is a noble career choice. A choice that means you value human life and safety and desire to help other people. However, desire to help isn't enough and not everyone can handle the every day stresses of being a 911 dispatcher or EMS employee. If you feel that a career in 911 or EMS is your calling, there are a number of steps you must go through in the process. It must be noted here that just because we accept your application and put you through the process it does not mean that we currently have a position vacant. OUR RECRUITMENT IS ONGOING. We try to maintain a waiting list at all times in the event we need to hire someone quickly. THERE ARE NO APPLICATION DEADLINES.
